You may think humans have reached the peak of technological and medical development in the last century, however, there are some astonishing superstitions concerning pregnancy and fertility fixed in some people's minds up to this day.

1- If you just gave birth, Hide!

There's a well known term used in south Africa called Al "moshahra ", it is a simple expression farmers wives use to refer for the woman who just delivered and some how won't be able to have more children.

How is that even possible you ask? Well, there is a common believe in the Arab countryside and rural regions, indicates that women who just give birth will no longer be able to have more children if a girl in her menstrual period entered the woman's room during the first few days. This myth defers from one region to another, for instance in some villages if the girl in her period entered the room of a bride in her wedding day it will definitely cause infertility issues for the bride. To break this long lasting curse you could try two options. The first one is to make the mother wear gold jewels and tie a thread in her hands with 7 knots. The other one is to avoid hosting guests in situations like this, either by cancelling on them or even fleeing the house for several days.

2- No water after delivery!

Delivery myths concerning the mothers are insane in some parts of the world !

Imagine you have just gone through a long painful delivery procedure and your thinking to your self, the worst part is over. Unfortunately for you it's not, as you have to survive the first week after your child birth with only little sips of water. Why is that?

Will it's for your own health as water may cause you sever fever and leave you with an unbearable billy fat, or so the legend says..

3- Blessing from the fertility god "Min"

Egypt has been always known for it's wondrous pharaonic culture, but didn't we all thought that their religious believes are over now! Will in "Shbeen Al Qanater" city located in "Qalyubia " state it still isn't.

Although families there are extremely conservative and islamic believers, women would directly go to "Min" the fertility god which located in the "Jewish Hill" region to cure their infertility problem or for sex selection ( mostly boys).

Women get their blessing by climbing this hill 7 times in a raw, washing up and then having sex near it and washing up again before heading home.

This myth goes back to ancient Egypt, when Egyptians believed that "Min" the god fertilized all women across Egypt in time of sever wars. So back then men didn't worry about leaving their wives alone for along period, they will definitely find pleasure with "Min" the god!

4- it's all about magic!

No kids hah, you must be cursed or envied !

Despite how poor some families are, they are willing to spend a fortune to Sheikh (imposter) in order to break the bad circle surrounding them and get pregnant. Some women around the world believe that magic and envy may be good reasons for their infertility problems, therefore they would go through some sessions that require performing certain rituals with blood and slaughtering. After these sessions they expect pregnancy and truly believe it will happen.

5- Cemeteries hold death and life!

Not all cemetery visitors cry their eyes out on their beloved lost ones, cemeteries could have the magic spell for your infertility issues too, or that's what they think!

A woman whois unable to conceive children would collect seven stones from the grave of man who has been murdered, sink the stones in a bowl of water for a while and then have a shower with that water. The myth claims that the dead man will grant the years left from his life to a new soul in a new body (cure infertility)!

Last but not least, freaking out from the hideous smell of dead bodies can help too!

Some cultures believe scaring woman out to death( metaphorically speaking) by forcing them to smell a recently buried body would magically solve all her medical issues. They even sometimes lock her down to sleep next to the body for a whole night! If she survived that night, then -finger crossed-she now can conceive.

6- "Cravings, features" signs of a baby boy

According to completely non-science based investigations conducted by some villagers around the world, you are pregnant with a boy if:

-your nose have grown twice bigger.

-the fetus is deviated up or to the right, apparently baby boys are centered in the upper part of the abdomen to be crowned as kings. Shockingly enough, this myth actually came from the French culture.

-you are craving salties and eating a lot of meat.

7- "Cravings, features"signs of a baby girl

You guessed it right, it's the exact same opposite from the boys signs. We will conclude it in some points. You are Pregnant with a girl if:

-your nose stills the same size without exploding or something

-the fetus is deviated to the left or the bottom of the abdomen (no crown for her obviously).

-you are craving sweets and eat a lot of cheese.

8-Salt test..

The legend says secretly spread some salt on a sleeping pregnant lady and watch her first moves, if she rubbed her nose then it's a boy, and if she touches her ears or scratches her forehead then it's a girl. Thats of course if that "test" didn't infuriate her and her face turned into vermilion red.

9- The Mayan civilization and the calculator

According to this civilization, if you added your age during pregnancy and the expected due date of your baby you can get some accurate results about the baby's sex. How exactly? Easy, if your total was an even number then it's a boy, while if it was an odd number it's definitely a girl.

10-Your partner's weight!

I've been holding this for last as it's, to me, the most obvious bizarre myth out of all the myths.

This belief states that if your partner gained weight while you are pregnant, then it's a girl's sign. If not and he kept his normal weight, obviously it's a boy.

Carful my dear, starving or fattening your partner won't help you in sex selection.
